Despre carte:

Silvia Albu is a young bookseller who recently returned to her hometown after an enforced absence of almost five years. This is Romania in 1983. Food is rationed, there is almost nothing left in the shops, light is taken for an hour a day, abortions are forbidden and contraception is non-existent, love comes with the threat of death. In the neighbourhood on the outskirts of Pitesti, the Complex is a whole universe, the planets revolving around their own axes are the Alimentara, the Butcher’s, the Confectioner’s, the Grocer’s, the Bookshop, the Watchmaker’s, the Post Office. In the life of the bookseller, scarred by trauma when she was only 17 years old, a lot of children move around. Over the summer, a romance develops between her and the watchmaker, a man seven years her senior. Appealing, the watchmaker seems to promise to take her with him to new horizons – but can you believe in promises or is it all a fleeting spark? All the Bookseller’s Children is a song of loneliness and potentially death-dealing love, from the times of those who were young in the 1980s. A song against the backdrop of which a whole range of children’s stories is displayed.
