Scurta istorie a dezastrelor naturale. Epidemii, cutremure si dereglari climatice pdf

Despre carte:

To what extent can mankind counter the major threats that can come from the natural environment? Climate change, solar radiation, epidemics, volcanic explosions, tornadoes, drought, earthquakes, tsunamis – the list is endless. We actually live in an extremely hostile world and we have so little capacity to contain it. In this book, Lucian Boia reviews the various disasters that have affected the evolution of societies and civilisation, and compares them with the present moment, when it is clear that the functioning of the human-nature mechanism is out of balance, most probably irreversibly. Indeed, the world will not end, says the author, because of earthquakes, or sunspots, or the variation of the Earth’s axis. Nor even because of pandemics. The greatest danger now is climate warming and the greenhouse effect, a global and potentially destructive phenomenon for which man is primarily responsible. But it is far from certain that mankind can stop the process, or even that it wants to change its way of life. It is only at this point that the human species is in danger of truly disappearing.
