The second novel in the MINERVA TUTOVAN series.
Minerva Tutovan, the dreaded enemy of villains, one of Rodica Ojog-Brașoveanu’s most successful characters, is back in action!
A network of forgers of engineering diplomas doesn’t seem like a very dangerous business – until three people who use their services are mysteriously killed.
The mastermind of the whole operation runs everything by phone and always seems to be one step ahead of Minerva Tutovan.
A gripping tale of espionage and counter-espionage, set in 1970s Bucharest.
Ori laie, ori bălaie exists only at the hairdresser’s. In life, things are polychrome…
Take a casual glance in the window of a bakery. Piles of sweets in tin cradles, with cleverly wrapped ribbons, candy boxes with lace-paper festoons, as intimate as a piece of petticoat. Abstract, absurd recordings that didn’t fit into the circuit of his state of mind. He marveled as he perceived them, as if any image alien to what was about to happen to him was meaningless, could not, should not exist.
He walked bumping into passers-by, travellers alighting at the station. People turned away surprised. He had lost that reflexive shoulder dodge that avoids obstacles, that apologizes.
He crossed the square and, after a few manoeuvres, always checking his back, he reached Calea Rahovei. A silhouette emerged from near the Cluj restaurant and for a split second Pascu met his eyes. He had the absurd impression that the other was waiting for him, that he sensed a shadow of gratitude, a particular gleam in his expression. He heard his footsteps behind him and after a few metres he was certain that he was being followed.
