Istoria critica a literaturii romane 5 secole de literatura pdf

Despre carte:

All literary histories dream of being pure by definition and are impure by nature. There is plenty of impurity in this one too. I have not eliminated them, because I did not want to write a perfect (in this respect) and barren work, but a living and even contradictory one, in so far as it does not express an abstract, timeless author, but myself, the here and now, with my readings, competence, temperament, taste and whims. And lest the note of relativity implied in this acknowledgement lead to vain illusions, I shall have to, perhaps (however unmodest I may seem), repeat the recommendation made by a famous philosopher on the threshold of one of his works: my book will be understood all the better if the reader has himself reflected on the works commented on in it. I am not offering a manual intended for instruction, but at most an attempt designed to please the instructed.
If, on the other hand, it is true – and how beautifully Călinescu put it in the final preface to his History – that literature can serve as the clearest map of the Roman people, I consider myself no more than one of the dozens of cartographers, a silent and modest Benedictine of the idea that everyone should be judged by what he has achieved, however far his map may be from the ideal map which, in their naivety, the lovers of literature think possible.
